Doc's Rasp for the arthritic

Hi everybody

Made this rasp from an old broken band saw blade.

Several cut to size (whatever they are - about 200mm) and a total of 9mm diameter means it's a very useful tool for making slots in wood (I'm a wooden toymaker) that are, well, 9mm wide :pimpflash:

Having arthritic hands and a wood lathe means I just had to make some handles for it. A bit over the top, but I enjoy having a play.

An oversize hole allows the blade(s) to be firmly pushed in and epoxied in, not that they really need the epoxy.

Nice, I already saw the trick for the several blades, but the second handle is a great addition !
How many layers of blade did you put together ?
One must never through away anything :clapping:, especially old bandsaw blades. (or hacksaw blades)

Thanks Christophe. I just ducked out and counted -11 layers all up and a quick re-measure shows it's 6mm wide not 9mm.

No wonder I found it useful - 6mm is a typical size for some of the timber I use.

Must admit, the end handle was more an attempt to see if I could turn a sphere(ish) shape free hand :cool:

did you arrange the teeth direction all the same way or did you alternate ?

I alternated them. No reason, just remembered seeing a bought one that looked like that :headscratch:

On reflection, I should try another one with them all facing the same way like a Surform type rasp.
