Some of those "fancy catalog tools" just don't have the character of home made, some times they don't have the function either. In the mid 90's 3/16 mortice chisels became scarce in catalogs for some strange reason, result, a tie rod from a 72 datsun became a serviceable chisel. It's in my chisel roll still, though it could use a nicer handle. Thanks for sharing.
