    Drill Bit Sharpening Jig

In this video I skim over the build of a drill bit sharpening jig that I started building over a year ago. I also introduce a commercial sharpening jig which works really well.

I love the jig that you built. The problem is that when you start your grind the bit is closer to the wheel, but when you swing the bit upwards, it gets further away from the wheel. This is exacerbated by the fact that being a wheel, the higher an object you’re grinding is, the further away the grinding surface of the wheel it becomes. This problem could be fixed by setting your jig against a belt sander instead of a curved wheel. Great idea. Good build!!

I bought a cheap Drill Doctor and was amazed at how accurate the grind was. It even did a decent job at split pointing the bits. Working mostly in wood, hand sharpening is usually "good enough". I have a separate set of bits for metal and use the Drill Doctor if I need to sharpen them.
