Whoever painted it made the choice to try to "update it" at the time rather than toss it...they made the perfect choice.

Only if it had been made of MDF or particle board from IKEA,
guess you didn't notice the inlay on the drawer. Paint doesn't update furniture if it is made out of real wood it only cheapens the appearance, better to be mismatched with the rest of the furniture than hide the wood with paint. This comes from a guy who believes everything made of wood is future firewood.

Of course I noticed the inlay, perhaps you didn't notice my point...they painted it, they didn't throw it away and therefore it still exists...they "updated it" at the time to their tastes and they probably loved the piece for what it was for decades, don't begrudge them or ice blast them to the bone, they cocooned a nice table for future consideration.

Could be mass produced inlay. Like a taped on strip. The video does not show the real quality.

But I do agree. If the unit is real inlay, it would have been better to sell it and buy something closer to what you want.
