    That won't work for very long. The tiny little pawls in the freewheel will wear the ends off in a very short period of time. I tried that a few years ago. I did modify the cover to fit back over the fan so the air worked as normal. It would be nice if it would work for a good while as it's an easy way to add a starter.

    Mine only lasted about 5 hours worth of engine running time before it wouldn't catch at all anymore but it did work for a little while.

    I've wondered if using one of those one-way bearings would work in it. Those are keyed too so it should be possible to substitute one of those for the freewheel.

    If we are talking about modifying the idea, why not cobble it up to the pull starter dog? That drops completely out of engagement once released
