Yup it can happen. Anyone remember the FORD Probe campfire option? The Pinto? 4rth of July option?

I remember watching a documentary of hydrogen containment systems and the remark of an engineer that if Gasoline, or Petrol was invented today there is no way that it would ever be allowed to be used and stored as it is allowed because of familiarity. It is a very dangerous substance that everyone believes is perfectly safe.

I see mant more of these fires happening and we are eventually going to wish for our safe old gasoline cars back again. The polution generated in this video is probably as much as a normal car generates in a year.

First mistake was storing the EV in the garage.

I vaguely recall seeing that a warning was issued prior to an expected flood that EV owners park their cars away from their house/garage for this reason. I don't have an EV, so didn't pay attention. It could have been a local thing, rather than from a manufacturer.

Barbecue option. They liked to light up and burn. Watched one take about 2 minutes from first smoke to full conflagration in traffic.

I always thought the Pontiac Fiero was aptly named. Those had a lot of fires!

Car explodes in front of firefighter - GIF

Now that would be a way to light up a garage! And look ma, complete combustion so we don't even have to count it as pollution!

Picture this conversation happening in 2024

Inventor: So I have this idea for a vehicle. You get inside a metal box weighing approximately 4000 lbs, and you guide it along smooth asphalt paths by pressing on foot pedals and turning a big wheel to steer it. Oh and they will travel down these paths at about 100 feet per second.

Professional complainers: We don't have any of these paths. We'll have to plow down hundreds of thousands of acres of wilderness to install these paths.

Inventor: Yes, yes we would need to do that.

Professional complainers: And what keeps these 4000 lbs metal boxes from slamming into each other while traveling at 100 feet per second?

Inventor: Well... paint. Yes paint. We'll paint some lines on the paths and the boxes will pass within a few feet of each other while traveling at high speeds. No they won't have any sort of rails, guards or a guidance system.

    Professional complainers: <<head explodes>>
