Endmill Sharpening device, end cutting edges only

Sharpening an endmill has two quite different edges to sharpen. Those on the side which is difficult and need relatively complex equipment, and those on the end which are easy with quite simple tooling. Sharpening the end edges only is well worth doing as it will considerably improve the finish achieved when being used to surface a workpiece.

The video which I am introduceing here shows a device for sharpening the end edges, being easy to use and easy to make in just a few hours.

I can vouch for this being easy to make and use. I ruined a lot of cutters when I first got my little bench mill, but Harold's simple tool made a lot of them usable again. The grinding rest behind is also one of Harold's creations..

Thank you Harold for this very effective sharpening system. In my case I use it for the secondary only and the primary is done on my tiplap style grinder on a CBN wheel.

I copied Harold's design and I found it a joy to use. Easy and precise. I even made some 'chucks' out of hexagonal bars to grind 3-fluted endmills.
