    Hey boss I got the bridge down way ahead of schedule, so how about that raise?
    Where is my excavator?
    OH, uh, about that its being washed as we speak but it may have gotten a bit of water in the intake and the exhaust, so the rental company is going to have to take it to their shop for a while I've already called them to go and haul it for us.

    There was more engineering in that old structure than they gave it credit for

    Or less considering the cracking of one section caused a complete domino effect, even the span supports went down.
    But the most probable answer is the bridge was much further gone than they had figured. That one collapsed section they were trying to break up may have been a good indicator of the condition of the rest of the bridge
