Excavator slides off barge - GIF

What could the red thing, with what looks like a "cab" round it at the front of the barge at 20 be? has by some miracle ,(or lat minute work by the operator slewing the bucket left) caused the thing to right itself?

What difference would they have made, except to capsize the barge as well.

Who knows but all the marina dredging I worked on the machines which were things like excavators and tractor mounted drill rigs were all securely fixed to the scow deck.. In this case the digger starts slipping sideways further upsetting the balance.
As Bob_3000 pointed out basically ya can't fix stupid and having anything sitting unrestrained on deck is a no-no.
