Chinese ingenuity that we used to have here. Canada, USA, All over Europe. This is dying out here. Huge forging capabilities still exist, but this kind of forging not so much. And it is this kind of forging that you do by the hundreds and thousands.
People have been trained not to work. Everyone will be a doctor or a lawyer or and engineer. Funny how that has had a knock on effect over the past 40 years.

Thanks, Mark, it certainly seems so. I am a burned out professional with a lifelong interest in craft, especially forging, carpentry, building, but for the few who become craftsmen now, hopefully at least they will earn better money. Better than nurses and teachers! But perhaps not so much as train drivers.
I come from a family of tradesmen, practiced carpentry and Cabinetmaking myself. Dabble in a few others. What has happened in Canada is that the tradesmen are quite expensive now. And being in my mid 50's I'm wearing out, and can't find anyone that wants to actually work. Sad to watch the crafts get more and more unskilled. Watching different social media I see that people, men and women are interested in craftsmanship and in learning. But still wondering what is to become of the art side of these, the fine work. Sadly looking at what I see in homes and the like at this point I am not very impressed.
You do good work Philip. Take heart in that.
