I wonder if the man on the ground was Richard marchinko? Read what he wrote about his experience in expiraments in extractions this way. Not one to miss a chance to mess around he started to go from freefall form to fetal position causing him to swing like a pendulum under the plane to an extent that the air crew thought he was unconscious. Sounded like his messing around caused the program to be scraped. Never was quite shure what all to believe that I read in his book Rouge Warrior. Thinking back on it I seem to remember that in his tests they used some thing like a weather balloon for the plane to catch, bit of a complicated system it seemed like as I remember. Catching the cable lifted by the balloon in front of the nose of the plane and transferring the cable back to the cargo hatch so the cable could be attached to a winch. Years earlier my Brother in law gave me some old soldier of fortune, new blood, ect mags. In one issue there were pictures of the weather balloon extraction tests. Talk about zero to fifty. Likely faster than most sports cars.
