Speaking of fumigation, the town I grew up in was next to a river. Each summer brought hordes of mosquitoes. To combat the problem, the street department would periodically spray DDT from the back of a pickup truck that drove slowly through the streets. It had a kerosene burner in the bed that would inject DDT into the exhaust and force it out a nozzle in a thick, white fog.
We would follow the truck through the fog on our bikes.
Good times, all.
My wife might say “explains a lot!”
