Wire wrap wire soldered to the ends of a glass cartridge fuse is good for a couple of amps. I've used that more than once until the proper fuse could be found.

I'm pretty sure you can pin a breaker in place and it'll still trip. At least modern ones. I think Big Clive did a video about it.

The old ones wouldn't, which is why the redesign.

Back in the dim past when everyone was monochrome, my father and I did some side work upgrading fuse boxes to higher amperage breaker boxes for neighbors. We were down in the basement of one house (where the boxes were in these houses) and had pulled the main fuses. We were about to start removing wires when the homeowner's kid came home, asked why we were working in the dark down there and flicked on the light switch. The lights came on.

We froze, backed away and started investigating how this was wired. Well, some of the circuits went through the main fuses, just not all of them.

Several years later when we moved, I was maintaining the facilities at a small church with dual compressors on the evaporator wired in parallel. One day they had someone service the HVAC system without telling me, the guy unwired stuff, replaced a part, and put the wires back without minding phase (3Ф). Turned it on and BLAM (luckily a small bit blew up). Of course I was blamed.
