Short video on the topic of rigid tapping on a CNC lathe based on LinuxCNC software. I've got no left-hand motion on my spindle, so it does only the cutting move without retracting but I think this could be helpfull for somebody doing it first time. Should work for both CNC lathes and milling machines.
