Do they actually qualify as gears? And, what's the application?

I don't know it they actually qualify as gears, but if they were laid in the horizontal plane and made longer with several more flighting pitches then the apparatus could be used for rolling dough balls
Never try to tell me it can't be done

I searched the 'net (mostly Thingiverse) and can't find any STL or SCAD files to make this. I'd be interested in stacking sections to make a longer model as Frank suggested to see if it can move round things - not dough balls coz those go right in the oven!

I call this a "transport gear" arrangement but a search of that term turned up nothing, nada, zip!!

So, all I have left is a somewhat mesmerizing video to look at while my wife snaps her fingers in front of my face to steal my attention.

The more I stare at the video in the OP, I'm less convinced it would behave as a good way to transport spherical objects. Maybe it would, but I'm getting disoriented from staring at the video too long! lol

What I was intitially thinking was what I'd seen in an episode of "How Its Made" that illustrated glass marbles beinge shaped from blobs of molten glass dropped between two rotating auger-looking pieces.
