Is this a modified SPMT? The concrete appears to only be supported at each end. What do the middle wheels do?

No modifications required, the beauty of the modular transport systems is the way they are connected together all wheels will share the load equally and can be manually programed to allow for traversing over slightly uneven terrain while the platform the load rest on remains level
