So slightly on topic, but I was reading the manufacturer's recommendations on the little nylon blade things you can buy. They said to soak them in water overnight. That sent me down a rabbit hole on the properties of nylon. Turns out the mechanical properties of nylon change pretty dramatically when it absorbs water. The ultimate strength goes down quite a bit, but the mechanical toughness goes way up. So in situation where you have a lot of impact it's perfect.
Anyway I thought that was interesting. If you have nylon components that will suffer a lot of abuse, soak them in water and they'll last longer.
