Hand flat vise
Here is a home designed hand vise for multiple purposes.
It is basilcally made for holding little pieces, it can be a blade for sharpening on the wet grinder, or a little piece of bone, for making a nut for a stringed instrument, for instance.

The jaws are simply two flat pieces of steel, the base one, welded to the handle is beveled.
It is tightened thanks to the couple of threaded posts and wing nuts.

Here it is in use on the wet grinder. I add in this case two pins that go through the base plate and that act as stops when I push against the tool rest bar.

Here, it is in used with the disk sander. I am preparing a bone nut. The faces must be orthogonal.
The pins are removed.
I sometimes need to put a shim, roughly the same width as the workpiece, at the opposite side.

And here, you will understand the reason for the long handle.
It is in use on the bandsaw, still while shaping a piece of bone for making a nut.
Holding little pieces is always an issue and is dangerous on the bandsaw.
This tool is great for that purpose, and it holds the piece square to the blade.

Very good Christophe ..

Very practical and yet a work of art. I really like the wood turning details you add to your tool handles and the brass/copper ferrules.
