    Until recently I did not realize gold has a fairly high melting point of around 1900 degrees F

    The many interesting properties of gold are what makes it so precious and expensive.

    The high corrosion resistance alone is worth making certain things out of it if it wasn't so expensive.
    High reflectivity of the infrared spectrum, malleability not to mention the beautiful colors of the alloys.
