    Seems he would have been better off to let the rear wheels get turning again to get straight, then get back on the brakes. Then then again, we have no idea what is in front of him.

    I'm thinking something mechanically malfunctioning locked the rear wheels.

    Strange the rear whell are locked and the front are still turning, like Frank said "something mechanically malfunctioning locked the rear wheels".

    It is very possible that something broke to lock up the rear axle. It should also be noted, but most big trucks did not have front brakes until 1975 when over the road rigs were required to have front brakes. Even if they do have front wheel brakes, there would be a bias adjuster to keep the fronts from locking up, for exactly the reason you see in the video. That driver was able to steer the truck.

    I do not know if front brake are required on off-road trucks. I have worked on two Terex off-road, dual rear axle, 6 x 6, articulating trucks. They did not have front brakes.

    Yeah they are de-lec's .Diesel engine running generator to drive DC traction motors. They have front brake in circuit with back. They also have a retarder system set up for the rear wheels, 2 large disc brakes in a oil bath used when driving on a decline whether loaded or un loaded. Temp gauges in cab to mon oil temp. They can easily lock rears when empty, not when full. Keep a constant safe speed without using up all your air pressure . And, fun to drive
