    IT is not the first ever nor the most comprehensive. The Spintron beats it by decades and function.
    My own motorcycle version also beats it by 1 or 2 decades. I made a special cylinder with viewing ports and a reflector at the bottom with a hole for a LED strobe light. The strobe fires at every second revolution, synchronised to RPM +/- an advance determined by a software setting. This gives an adjustable slow motion effect enabling detail examination of what is happening both by direct vision and camera. Valve bounce/float, pushrod bow, lubrication etc can all be verified up to 12,000 RPM. Here are a few pix.

    LOTS of physics involved in a "simple" valve train is not accounted for in that tester.
