Horses for courses aye? Trimming Macrocarpa hedges up to about thirty feet Some use a disk type cutter with fixed or rotating blades and others use a rotating drum with HT chain flails, If it works and does the job and you're happy nothing else matters. What Vyacheslav.Nevaolya has built works for him and you did not mention scale. I in my ignorance forgot everything is bigger in Texas!

Nope not everything is bigger in Texas but what's not probably doesn't matter much LOL
The wife sat on her almost antique Craftsman 15 Hp rider today long enough to mow a couple of acres but this is an area where the grass has been kept mowed so no brush or high weeds. I want to reclaim about 12 acres of the property which has several years worth of growth Right now the nearest thing I have to do the job is a 1961 Gravely walk behind with attached sulky to sit on the problem with it is it has a 50 inch finishing mower deck so I need to either make a 38 to 40" swing blade brush shredder or get my 23 HP diesel Toro Z master going remove the 70" finishing deck and make a smaller twin disk swing blade brush cutter for it but those are projects that will take a while.
A neighbor has tried using his John Deere 4020 with 6 ft brush hog on his place but the only way he can do much is to try and cut in reverse
If only I could have appropriated a couple drums of agent orange before they said it was dangerous.

Agent Orange was dangerous? Just starting Winter up here so everything has slowd growth and I only have small section. Have you thought of Goats?
I cut my teeth on Gravely's as an apprentice always wanted one of my own just have no use for one. Sounds like you need a D2 Cat and a rake,
    Enjoy your Summer.

Goats would be good but the would have to be staked out during the day because to build a got prof fence would cost more than the critters are worth. Also in Lew of a goat fence they would have to be put out during the day then rounded up and brought to a pen in the evenings or the coyotes would get them. If I had a stock tank for water the goats wold stay around without fences but Like you said a small cat dozer and a rake wouldn't be a bad thing.or Hire a company to just clear the land but I want to maintain the wooded areas just clear out about half of the under brush so the natural grasses will have a chance
