Horse pulls car out of ditch - GIF

Horse pulls car out of ditch. Big horse, small car, shallow ditch. Still cool.

I think the key to understanding this in the context of horsepower is that 1 horsepower is a sustained average, and was likely not based on a horse this large. Horses can also probably burst to 10X that power or more.

Unless this was staged, I cannot imagine all those spectators didn't try like heck to free the car before the guy with the horse came by.

I have a friend in Montana who raises those big beautiful draft animals. And like Jon mentioned they can probably burst 10x their normal average energy. Just like the thorough bread race horses the 1/4 horse and horses bread for specific tasks such as cutting horses or those used in barrel racing each have certain traits and well developed areas of their bodies which enable them to excel at what they do best.
This animal probably very nearly outweighed the small car as well. To it the car was no more than a bothersome mosquito
Never try to tell me it can't be done

I suspect that had more to do with traction than horsepower. But still cool.
