Ages ago I got to tour a glass bottle plant. They made millions a week.
The main machine for blowing (as shown here) was only about 25 feet y 8 feet in size. They had two of them.
I wanted very much to take pictures of the place - the floor was red brick, there were puffs of smoke from the daubers wielded by the attendants who wiped the molds periodically to keep the glass from sticking.
Those two machines made so many bottles and they had such long set-up times that the place had maybe 500,000 square feet of storage (or more!) for finished goods. No JIT there!
