Did that say Fairlane on it? Was that a version of the Crown Vic?

Crown Victoria was originally an optional trim package for the early Fairlanes. Ford later used the name for a separate model starting around 1990 or so.

Ford did that from time to time. The Ford Ranger pickup was previously a trim level of the Edsel, then a trim level of the F series pickups. Also was a trim level of the Bronco. Later they introduced the "Ranger" as a compact pickup.
