I think the photo supplied is alright. How would you do it otherwise? The whales probably wont cooperate if you ask them to appear on Que for the photographer. The whale lives in the ocean and the hunters are on a whaling ship. Hard to get them both in the same camera frame if you are trying to also include a flying bullet in the process. Speaking of which, how fast is the camera mans finger to time his shot to catch a flying bullet? I think the purpose of the original photo was to show the anti-tank rifles being use by whalers at work in the soviet union.
A whale is a pretty big animal. Bigger than a car. Some of them bigger than a semi truck. Any real need to prove that the shooters are accurate enough to hit one with a bullet?

Thanks Jon for that photo. I did not know that Russian whalers use anti-tank rifles to hunt with.

Well, the range, accuracy and power make it plausible. There would have been plenty surplus gun/ mount/ ammo to utilize.
And far more potential than large frame Martini-Henry and Greener receivers, used as harpoon guns.

My point is that I don’t see a ship, I see some sort of framework that could also be a fence. Who says these gents are whaler’s? I don't see any whales either. To say that these guys are “whalers” shooting whales with anti tank rifles is all conjecture as far as I’m concerned.

There's also a ship's bell hanging upper right and a distinctive ship's ventilator input horn lower right.
