    I like Jigs

On a violin forum I said I liked jigs and I always smiled when I saw a new one . I almost got a telling off . Later a very famous maker died and they described how he made jigs for nearly everything . I felt much better reading that .
One motor drive I use to drive a pulley came from my sister in law`s old dishwasher. It has no carbon brushes and is very quiet . It works a stationary outer wooden frame with a slider frame inside to drill precise pre planned holes to indicate the shape of violin plates .The only adjustment possible is changing the drill bit length . The parabola curve shapes I prefer are drawn using a fine chain on a vertical board . I keep that larger scale and use a calculator to divide for the actual size . The chain saves using a computer. I draw the results on the violin wedges like a relief map .
Edit .Let me correct that drill frame info. The inner part is stationary and the outer part slides. I press the outer frame with my hips to move it inwards against the drill bit. A spring pushes it back out . I hold the violin plate vertical looking downwards. The chips fall on the floor and do not get in the way .The plate is always held by me and not clamped.
