I made a soft-faced mallet out of a cast iron gas meter valve body,

As mentioned at the start of the video, I was given this 1" NPT gas meter valve to scrap. I removed the brass components to melt down in some future casting project, but I couldn't bring myself to scrap the awesome body. I realized it would make a cool basis for a mallet.

I used lead (previously melted down discarded wheel weights from the dealership where I work), copper, brass (both raw C360 stock and another repurposed plumbing fitting), mahogany, and cherry. Finished with BLO then a beeswax polish a week later.

You could also put a bunch of lead shot inside to make it a dead blow.

That looks almost too pretty to be used beating on stuff.
