The field was flooded then the temp. dropped low enough for long enough to freeze several inches thick than the water drained away. Kind of cool

That is a cool situation, but I am curious about how that crop was harvested, and if it was really corn. The remnants of a typical corn harvest would leave much more residue in the field and the stalks would be bent and broken over, rather than cut.
If is was cut for silage, that would explain the lack of residue. But there would not be so much stalk remaining.
Just my curiosity wondering.
