I'm guessing you mean on snow, Just a little difference when you tumble in deep snow

The "snow" we downhill on is as hard as ice/concrete, has ruts, bumps, rises and dips...fall while skating on ice at high speed and you slide on the flat surface until you stop....nothing "horrific" about it.

I guess you can tell I would never do either willingly. can't understand why people would even want to. Had to take winter survival training in 73 was forced to do several distance shoe and ski treks to qualify. haven't been on a pair of skis since Nov 73 plan on it being another 49 years before I do it again
