Bloody expensive roofs, Will last many years but too bad they only look nice for a very short period of time.

There's a Frank Lloyd Wright house in a town near mine in Northern Indiana that just got a new copper roof about 15 years ago. it looked ridiculous until the patina of the copper turned it dark brown. Now it looks exactly like it should. In that case it looked horrible for a short period of time, then looked nice. The ones that are just steel with a "copper" paint on them look odd to me unless they're on just the right house.

A friend of mine on an Island in the Puget sound spent 10s and 10s of 1000s dollars probably closer to 100K for standing seam copper roofs on his house and all of his other buildings. The bright shinny copper really popped for a couple of years but had begun to dull. But the time 5 years had passed, it looked horrible with streaked patina at 7 years he paid some company to come in and literally polish every sq inch of every roof and coat it with a clear which supposedly had a 25-year guarantee to never dull. YEAH RIGHT! The last time I saw him was about 3 years before he passed away at 94 years of age. He still loved his copper roofs but hated that he could no longer justify having them stripped and polished. No Idea what they look like today. Probably brown with green corrosion
