Installing a faux brick exterior - GIF

Hi Gang:
What keeps the "bricks" from popping up and falling off? Also it doesn't look water proof. Perhaps it is meant to breath?
We have a new building here in Charleston SC that looks like brick, but it is colored concrete panels about 8'x8'.
