Another trick for a missing key is to copy-paste that character. So you could find a space, highlight it, copy it (control-C), and then just paste it (control-V) when necessary.

Hi Mike, welcome! Jon's suggestion is nifty. You can also do the Alt+255 (on the numeric keypad) thing to generate a space character.
