Jack + jackstand for working under a car - photo

Looks insanely dangerous at first glance. But I think he's just compressing something. Is this reasonable?

Can't tell from the pic, but looks like he's taking pressure off the suspension? In any case, if the lift pressure is much at all, that thing kicking out could make for a bad day.

But again, assuming I'm not missing something in that pic, I've probably done worse trying to r/r broken Dana 60 stubs and steering joints with 42" tires at 8 psi and off camber on a rock strewn creek bed using nothing but a high-lift; or may two! Because one isn't unsafe enough! But it's hard to get a tow truck to come 20 miles off the pavement and a mile or more down a dry creek bed up/down a series of waterfalls. So you do what it takes to get it out of the mess you got yourself into.

All of the rotation axes of the vehicle, the jack, the jack stand and the 4x4 beam are in the same plane. He's asking for trouble...
If the jackstand is welded to the jack - a bit better. turn the jack 90 deg. - better still.

Oh, hell no! One good bump on the jack stand lock and it'll collapse. He might be only compressing the suspension, but a sudden drop of 4 or 5" could ruin his day rite quick.

As a qualified tradesman, I wouldn't use this setup if my life depended on it!

It looks like he is using the jack set up to put minimal lift to do something with the leaf spring. I do not see any danger there but if the tire closest to him were removed then he would be tempting fate. Lighten up!!
