Junk yard/scrap yard
Its been quite some time since I visted my local junk yard to scrounge up goodies. It is amazing the stuff people will scrap these days. Anyone find anything interesting? Lots of competition in my area looking for rusty treasure. But, I guess it keeps backwards rednecks like me busy!

Hi Savage11
Now you are talking to king of the skip divers (king of the dumpster divers, if in the US). Every week I find some thing useful.

I can't walk past a skip without having a look in. You wouldn't beleive what I have found in the past, Just the other day I found an Eclipse magnetic chuck with a broken handle. Got it home cleaned it up and it works as good as new. Just need to make a handle for it.

Yup, I accumulated all sorts of tools, nuts bolts, hardware, and metal from the dumpster where I work. Gotta love the free stuff!

Me Three. Recently found a good sized Pelican case (~15x10x6) in a dumpster still air tight, cleaned it up and gave it to my brother for a range box. I love them all; garage sales, junk yards/scrap yards, dumpsters, my Son in Law who scraps stuff from his pool business (motors, pumps, exchanger's etc.), even the side of the road (I brake for Junk and GS'). It is amazing to me how much metal actually gets toss to the side of the road.
To me re-purposing or restoring is the best fun and keeps the noggin percolating and me out of trouble. The biggest issue is organization and storage.
Thanks for posting this thread Savage11!

My wife says the only reason my truck has brakes is so I can stop on the side of the road and pick up stuff I recently found an un opened full 5 gallon pail of hydraulic oil the same brand as I use in my Backhoe. Here on our farm we have our own 4 cubic yard dumpster because I refuse to burn our household trash little that there is of it We thought about just getting a 1 yard plastic thing but then we would have to roll it out to the driveway each time to have it emptied. every few weeks so soon neighbors if you can call folks who live 3 to 5 miles away neighbors figured out we have it and some of them stop by at times to deposit their stuff I don't mind as the truck is going to dump it every week anyway full or empty. One day I found someone had dropped off a microwave in it. Lots of useful bits in those so I naturally pulled it. Hows that for having a scrap reclamation depository you don't even have to go look for? Maybe I should advertise deposit your junk here or something.

A bud of mine drives long haul and is forever stopping by and dropping off several 8 ft 2 x 4's that he gets when some of the loads he picks up has them under the load
Right now he says he has 30 of them he will drop off the next time he passes through.
