Killer Work Surfaces - NOT Good! (4K)

Different types of work surfaces have their pluses and minuses. One almost killed me! Let's talk about it.

NOTE: This is not all inclusive. If you are working with high voltages, dangerous chemicals, high temperatures, etc. you need to check the type of work surface to ensure it is safe for your needs!

I use an anti-static mat with a ground wire. The polymer has a high resistance and won't short out circuits you're working on, but it'll bleed off static charges. And the resistance is high enough you can't be injured, which is a nice feature. Downside being it's accumulating some damage from me soldering on it.

The tile is a good idea though. I think some tiles can even be slightly conductive to achieve a similar effect as the anti-static mat.

The anti-static mat has lots of advantages when it comes to electronics and electricity.
