It is amazing how quickly those yellow jackets die from exposure to gasoline fumes. Take this also as a cautionary tale when you are handling gas in a poorly ventilated space.

Try 91% or 99% rubbing alcohol. Less flammable, less stink, water soluble, and no residue. About as fast.

That's absolutely amazing. I've used dish soap and water a few times, which works very well. But this gasoline trick is much better.

I keep a spray can of non-Chlorinated brake clean on my work van to deal with cleaning & bug control. Gives me a nice bit of standoff from the target. I was out of bug spray one time &came across a wasp nest & used spray contact adhesive that's used to attach plastic drywall bead. That stuff makes you feel like spiderman shooting out webs.

Isopropyl 99%, as mentioned above, is just as fast and a much safer. Isopropyl (or ethanol) were a major ingredient in the Covid disinfectant formula and is quite inexpensive. No experience with ethanol on wasps . . . only myself.

The glass jar was a good idea. Gasoline in a plastic cup may be problematic, but it seems to work for this. Also, those look like paper wasps, not yellow jackets. The former is fairly docile for what they are, but the latter would have one on the ground crying for help before getting anywhere near the nest in broad daylight like this.

It works fine as long as one doesn't come BACK to the nest while you have it covered. I guess one sting is better than several though.
