    That's actually not the classic trucker's hitch.

    It is an interesting variant, but the upper loop on a trucker's hitch is a slippery half hitch. Also, on this knot the tensioning running end switches the load from the trailing end to the knot in a way that makes it look like it might fall apart if the load shifts and the knot loosens. The truckers hitch won't come apart if the rope loses tension. see: https://www.netknots.com/rope_knots/truckers-hitch

    Yep, but the video is probably cut short. If he brings the tail end back over the rail and up through the loop for additional tensioning, then adds the half hitches it will be completely secure.
