    Kraftsman

I'm tom Kraft and a wood and metal worker and multi media artist. I am current;y investing my time in top end Ornate Modern Calder inspired mobiles. My father cursed me with aiming at the complex and I fight being a perfectionist by saying to myself when I see a minor flaw in my work: That's what proves it's hand crafted and designed, so I don't feel bad for not just giving it away and being so happy when others say : "What are you talking about. That's nothing or that just what real art is." So I hate putting a week or three into a piece the having to say good by to it because it's a piece of me. I name each piece. This one is "Where Happy Meets Joy." My latest one has 19 balloon's of various sizes, shapes and colors and 20 + metal ribbons and bows. Each of them are balanced and fastened by a ring to the next lowest piece. Each movement triggers more movement on the connecting piece above and below. It is 7 ft tall and 28" wide. The slightest current of air starts the ballet. You never tire of watching them. That's why I hate to see them go.

    Hi Tom,

Welcome - glad to have you here!

I'm reminded of an old friend and building mentor who used to say that "perfect is the enemy of 'good enough'". The trick, of course, is to know and accept what constitutes 'good enough' in any particular context. I know just what you're saying, too, about it being difficult to part with any of your creations.

Let's see some pics of your work - you really have me curious now!

Hi Tom, as a boy who grew up in an art gallery, and with artists for company during some of my college years, I can relate to your attachment to your work. Glad you joined our community, and welcome to the forums!
