    It was indeed gently placed there, but by a something rather than a someone. Glaciers deposit collected items as they retreat. Since the retreat is due to melt and sublimation, the deposition is quite slow and gentle.

    Absolutely. There are a few of these on my property and in the surrounding area. Not nearly as spectacular though.
