This is a tool to find the center of a board or piece or metal stock. In use it's placed on the board with one set of the pins overhanging the edge, then rotated to bring both pins in contact with the edges of the stock. A center punch placed in the hole in the center piece is tapped and the resulting mark is in the center of the stock.
Numerous holes and two sizes of pins make it easy to set the tool for a wide variety of stock widths.

The edge of that bar marks the exact midpoint of the tool. At the time I built it, I thought I would have a use for that, but I've long forgotten my idea so, if you build one there's no need to add it.Originally Posted by Paul Jones
