I've priced them out for projects before. The ones I was looking at were around $250k. I'm sure you can find them much cheaper now. They would be amazing for rust removal. If you had a welding shop where you had to clean up a lot of steel I bet something like that would pay for itself quick enough that it might make sense to buy it.

It cost me $2K for the last sandblasting job on a trailer. it took 2 men 5 hours to blast it. and nearly a ton of sand. The problem is if I had to do this on a regular basis, I would have to worry about sand disposal

So what if you could do the same job with 1 or 2 men in 2 hours using no blast media. If you did a ton of trailers that laser could become an attractive proposition. I was looking at cleaning big stainless forming plates but the client didn't go for it.

I would need to be present at a real time live demonstration.
However, I am thinking about possibly leasing one like this on a trial basis

Oh that's just the cost of a good welder. That's not bad at all.

I am wondering if the power supply couldn't double as the source for a laser cutter. Since it also mentions engraver, it got me to thinking that changing the burner torch out for a cutter head on a CNC table. Even if it were double the price, it would be justifiable

Backyard Scientist did a video on these things about I'm about 99% sure they can do double duty as a laser cutter.

Would CO2/dry ice blasting work for rust removal? It's great for removing other material from metal I have no idea what the machines cost, but they don't leave media behind - only the removed material.

Co2/dry ice is fine for delicate work. or on thin sheet metal. It is my conviction that rust is a living organism feeding off of the base metal while combining it with oxygen moisture and the micro minerals in the air otherwise how can it grow to half an inch thick between the layers of paint and the base metal

Even the most aggressive sand blasting equipment has difficulties in removing some of it. I have used my 40lb electric jackhammer to break it up on some projects before sand blasting.
There is a product I often use to dissolve rust and mill scale on new materials, but it is slow, even though it contains the highest percentage of phosphoric acid concentration that can be purchased without a license.
