LeBlond cross feed repair

My 65 year old Le blond has had a problimatic cross feed since I have owned it. SO I finally got fed up with it.
It had part of a taper attachment but not the whole thing so someone had shimmed the end of the cross feed screw with washers. the whole thing also stuck out the back of the lathe about 10"

After disassembly I found here were no thrust bearings anywhere on the screw SO what I did was to cut off the extra portion then threaded the inside of the screw to 1/2 13 TPI and reassembled with a thrust bearing on both sides of the rear guide

now it doesn't take half a turn to take up the slack to move the cross slide like before which was very aggravating if making light cuts

Had to do pretty much the same thing to my Clausing 6913

Doug if the old lathe would have still had all of the taper attachment I doubt that I would have done this since the attachment for this model LeBlond will make a 20" long taper but the things are more in the way than they are useful when not making tapers.

When I put a taper attachment on my lathe, it had the thrust bearing assembly mounted at the end of the existing screw and fixed to the apron. This was removed, and the attachment then had a new thrust bearing as part of the push pull taper attachment slide assembly. Appears you remade the original piece.
I'll second that "things are more in the way". I thought when I purchased the kit, it would be used more then the one time so far.
