My favorite to use is the rack and pinion tailstock on my watchmaker lathe, but I really like being able to choose the right one for each job. This one was never very good for anything, though, between a really bad fit, weak design, and unhelpful feed pitch - this fixes two of those, anyways.

Having different options in one unit is great, too. I use the micrometer for a fine feed on this milling quill, I can retract and not worry about over feeding if I lower the tool again.

In this case I preferred a single feed lever with some adjustment, and was able to use mostly scraps just the right size to make it this way - otherwise I wanted a relatively large gear, or sector of one - something like this Mikron tailstock - and it would take material I didn’t have to support and enclose it.
