Long double header over the window's long opening. I've tried a similar, but not the window, a moving insulation door that is a pocket door. Maintenance is tough.
Note here it appears a stud size is 2x6, maybe 2x8(that supports the header), bottom plate looks like 2x10, with hidden pocket framed out with plywood to hold the insulation, inside yet to be installed.
I love the esthetics of REAL wood on the inside (that could be fiberglass, which will last long enough), every real wood window I have on my house and garage, have been replaced, with vinyl. And I installed that nice looking real wood interior window finish, and I thought the aluminum cladded exterior would protect me from rot. Well, they rot from the cladding inward. It did not pay to buy a name brand (but low end affordable). They had the Eglass for better energy control.
I expect to live another 27 years, and I want the next window change to be the next owners problem. And I'm a cheap bastard, so vinyl will do me. Next issue, all custom order now, as these were installed in 1996, double hung, and rough opening is not on the list of standard ones from the local home supply (Menards, these came from them, and in stock, Pella brand, local Iowa manufacture). They sold CrestClad brand, which is the rot that needs replacement on 4 more windows for next summer, and that brand seems to be gone. Probably made by Anderson. Also slide by style, always leaked air, seems casement for opening type. My house had awning style, made in 1955. Previous owner caulked them closed. They all got replaced in 2008, and will not outlast me, razzle frazzle frick-n-frack durn-wabbit.
