Very impressive if all you have to split is small-diameter, bone-dry softwood with few knots. Up here in the Sierra much of what we split is 18-30" Ponderosa pine rounds that would be quite a challenge to lift up on that table. Some of the knots can stall out my 22-ton horizontal/vertical splitter. On oak that machine would be useless.
Looks like the car spring is for pulling the wedge back up
The weight of the wedge is probley balance against the spring
If that wedge is all steel it is very heavy
From what I see the wedge has different angles the first part to hit the wood is very narrow getting wider to drive the wood further apart
