    Low Profile Caulking Gun

This is kinda neat. It's a caulking gun that splits the tube with blades instead of using a big plunger that sticks out the back.

I ordered one from Amazon ($29.90) and it got here today. After using it for a while I'll report that yep, it works quite well. For typical around the house jobs this is my new go-to caulk gun. That said, it wouldn't be the best choice for larger jobs because it seems to take a bit more pressure to squeeze the trigger than a standard gun and you get a bit less caulk per squeeze. This can be seen as a feature and not a bug. When you squeeze the trigger the plunger moves forward dispensing caulk. When you release the trigger, the plunger moves back to its starting point causing the caulk flow to stop immediately. (The caulk tube also moves back.) This is what gives the 'dripless' feature, there is no after-squeeze ooze. None. I've got a good number of small caulking jobs coming up and I'll update this if I have any troubles.

A novel idea, but 17% of reviews on Amazon say that this gun requires more muscle to operate, looses grip on the tube and isn't dripless. I'm a remodeling contractor and use caulk guns regularly... having the knife slit the tube will prevent the tube from rotating in the gun, which is a feature that alone would make it a no-go for me, as I bias cut my tips and constantly rotate the tube in the gun to accommodate the particular angle I'm working at the moment. That non-rotating feature would be fine for non-cosmetic applications where you're not concerned about appearance, like when applying subfloor adhesive.
