Creating the illusion of there being an actual fireplace. I could never wrap my head around why people would spend large sums of money for fake junk when they could have the real thing for the same money. Of course, the real thing would mean they would have to learn how to actually build a fire in their fireplace and not burn their Mc Mansions to the ground.
