Making a Fret Saw
Build video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5Onp0CQl7c
In this video I make a fret saw from some scrap steel that I had. For the upper arm I used a combination of forging and filing and the rest was done with welding and filing.
Very fun project but involves a lot of ornamental filing and a ton of filing in general.
Inspiration for this project was Seth Gould - a blacksmith who does some spectacular work and if you would like to buy one that is even more beautiful please visit his page at:

I played with split screen to make the filing a bit more interesting as I had a lot of footage of me hand filing and it would be boring if I hadn't done something about it.
Nice and useful little tool for the shop.

Fantastic video and fret saw. The video is even more fun to watch at 2X speed! Thanks for posting this.

Very neat saw, lots of great thought behind the design too.
If you plan on doing more you might want to hunt down a coarser large file. It will cut the filling time in half

Great Video Jere, hay you could cut your pork chops too.....:O)

Nice build Garage Workshop...with all your filing skills and tenacity the fret saw work will be easy peasy! :sweating:;) Made me sweat just watching. Great video. Really like the fast forward and multi-viewpoints covers a lot of ground but shows your processes really well! Thanks for Sharing! ~PJ

There's more than one way to skin a cat. Instead of grabbing some bar stock and bending it to shape, you forged the saw. Nice work, as always.

Very nice! For a bit I wasn't sure how it would all fit together but the end result is certainly beautiful.
