probably watched an old movie with a circus actor spitting alcohol and lighting it with a torch. He is obviously too young to have been to a real circus maybe some traveling carnival though. And thought hey that was really cool I should try that.
maybe next time he will give himself a vodka enema to try and get drunk faster then fart on the fire
